MetroLIFE Update - August 4, 2016
How have you grown since joining MetroLIFE?
"I feel that since joining MetroLIFE, my patience has grown. I tolerate a lot more stuff than I did in the past. Since reading the book, "The Power of Habit," I've learned that not every action deserves a reaction. From the first time I became a part of this group, I didn't care. I was angry, I wasn't at peace, I constantly fought with people, and in result of that, my spirit was unsettled. But as time went on, Mr. Mike had us going on the activities, it made me think. Now was a graduated high school student and soon to be college student, although I'm still working on forgiveness, I've had closure I'm at peace with myself. MetroLIFE has been a part of my growth."

"How have I grown since joining MetroLIFE? Tremendously. Things that I could never imagine doing, I did. I used to always keep to myself, but now I love to hang out with my MetroLIFE group and open up to them. I made friends out of this and met a bunch of new people. I also grew in my attendance. I learned how to commit to something and be punctual."

"When I first started the MetroLIFE program, I was all over the place. My main focus was getting paid the $200 a month and carrying on with my day. For the first 2 months, I had to work hard studying for the SAT's and ACT's. Of course, I didn't want to do that, but I did it anyway. I don't regret it at all because it helped me do much better in class, even though I did not take the SAT's or ACT's. Toward the end of the first year, I was given the opportunity to create my first resume and apply to my first job. Thanks to MetroLIFE, I was able to go to my first interview and I got the job. Senior year into MetroLIFE, I became closer to the people in the group, learned team work, and also learned to work hard. The program put me in a positive position. I was able to have fun and still graduate high school and I am very thankful. To the next MetroLIFE participants, I have to say, do not turn down this great opportunity. Work hard now, play later. You will not regret it."

"Being part of MetroLIFE, I've opened up becoming gradually less introverted. It's put me in some new and uncomfortable situations, helping me recognize my flaw, like losing composure at important moments. It taught me how to be myself, having fun how I want, and to smile more often, instead of brooding like I'm Batman. Most importantly, it taught me how to live, how to set and achieve goals, as well as how to see the bigger picture."

"Since joining the MetroLIFE program, I've become more timely. It's helped me stick to something for a long period of time, since long term commitments are difficult for me. I loved being able to go out to different places, learn impeccable things I never would've learned without this program. I also enjoyed eating out at different restaurants...one of my favorite parts of this program! I'm thankful for being set up with Tina (my mentor). She was amazing and helped me out with my life and college choices. I'm also grateful for Mr. Mike because he has been very patient and caring. I'll definitely carry this program with me for the rest of my life."

"I have learned a lot since MetroLIFE. I've learned some valuable life lessons, like that sometimes things aren't going to go your way, but you have to deal with it. For instance, going back to junior year, we had mandatory SAT classes, and even though I didn't want to be there, I fought through it and maintained it. MetroLIFE has taught me to step outside my comfort zone and do things I never expected to be able to do. I am thankful for Mr. Mike because he taught me to be somebody that can be trusted and be counted on. MetroLIFE is a place I can always go back on to and lean on for things. MetroLIFE blessed me with many opportunities for me to branch out and connect with different people. When I signed up for MetroLIFE, I didn't know what to expect, but I'm glad I did and I'm thankful for everything. My next step is college, and I know Metro will still be there for me."
